Dew Walking

I hope you had a happy April! It was an interesting month of Covid vaccines, an end to a prolonged reaction and recovery from the 1st dose of the Shingles vaccine, and a dreaded impending second dose. I am not sure when I will be able to get onto the mat in the way I am accustomed to. So, being that I began my yoga teaching career as an adaptive facilitator, I am going to create my own Americanized version of seated yoga and dance. And dabble in a bit of yoga nidra (yogic sleep).

Today, I want to introduce you to Dew Walking; also called, Grounding/Earthing.

Dew Walking is when you walk barefoot, on dewey grass. Grounding/Earthing is walking barefoot on moist soil or grass after the rain, on sand, gravel, cement, or lying on your back with your bare feet placed against a tree. Basically, it’s allowing your skin to be in contact with the earth.

This practice fights free radicals, improves sleep, regulates blood pressure, reduces pain, and lowers stress according to holistic practitioners. Of course, it will help you clear your mind and give your eyes a rest from the various screens we all spend our days staring at!

I hope you will try this activity for a week or two and see if it has a positive effect.

Thanks to the Washington Post and Sandra Sigur’s book, \”Healing Groovy\” for aiding me in writing this month’s blog.

Namaste’
